I had the absolute privilege of seeing my friend Ben Butler play with music legend Sting in concert with the Pittsburgh Philharmonic last week. Sting moved me to tears when he dedicated the song Fragile to the women of Iran and their fight for freedom. So it was fitting that I was wearing my beautiful @jebeli_au bag and @its_katemcauley wore Jebeli’s Mahsa Amani earrings, both handmade by my friend and Iranian refugee @ninazan.jeb right here in Sydney. Posted @withrepost • @galleryone_art Kathrin Longhurst has filled the Gallery One walls once again with her striking portraits. ‘WE CAN BE HEROES’ is no in PREVIEWING — officially opening this Friday 2nd December and will be on show for the entire month.

“Much has happened for both in the intervening decades: Bowie remains a cultural icon despite his death in 2016, while Longhurst, who fled East Berlin for Sweden in the late 80s, ultimately emigrated to Australia, where she became an award-winning artist and a major champion of the feminist cause. Known for her bold large-scale portraits of charismatic and often defiantly strong women, Longhurst has long challenged the patriarchy and with this exhibition she continues her crusade.” — @its_katemcauley

Coming up for auction. This is probably my favourite painting from 2013 and it’s coming up for auction at Lawsons in a week alongside works by Bob Dickerson, Adam Cullen, Lindsay and lots more. It was the catalogue cover for my 2013 exhibition “Children of the Revolution”, called Valentina and refers to my childhood hero Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space. Check it out.
